Drs. Goodison and Rosser Awarded $1.5 Million NIH Research Project Grant (RO1)

Dr. Charles RosserDr. Charles Rosser, assistant professor in the Department of Urology, is Co-Investigator for a recently awarded NIH grant totaling $1.5 million. The project, Towards a Non-invasive Molecular Test for Bladder Cancer, seeks insights that will enable improvements in the non-invasive diagnosis of bladder cancer, through analysis of naturally voided urine, avoiding unnecessary cystoscopy and therefore reducing patient discomfort and health costs. Furthermore, the establishment of an accurate urine-based assay could lead to the development of routine screening of the population.

Dr. Dahm Develops Unique EBM Series for The Journal of Urology

Dr. Philipp DahmUF Urology's Dr. Philipp Dahm, associate professor, in conjunction with Dr. Preminger of Duke University Medical Center, will edit a unique series of articles working to familiarize urologists with the terminology and principles underlying evidence based medicine (EBM). The growing emphasis on EBM practices has made the topic increasingly relevant for today's urologists, however there is a significant lack of educational materials specific to the specialty. Recognizing this critical need, The Journal of Urology has taken the initiative to publish a series of review articles, selected and edited by Drs. Dahm and Preminger during the next 18 months. These articles will be the fruit of unique partnerships between urologists and EBM experts and will serve as an invaluable resource to urologists seeking to incorporate the value of evidence based medicine into daily practice.
